Learning how to play the piano should be an enjoyable experience. Once you have found the right instrument for you, consider seeking certain resources to streamline the learning process. Here are 3 important tools that can greatly enhance your playing experience.
1. An Instructor
If you can afford one, a piano instructor is one of the best resources you can have. They help develop good habits and have first-hand experience playing the piano. No matter how often you meet with them, you need to be practicing on your own time as well because this is where the real learning occurs.
2. Books and Videos
The internet is the best place to look for free material for beginners. You can watch video tutorials that walk you step by step on how to get started or if you stumble upon a question, a quick Google search can do the trick! Use the internet as a resource to conduct research and improve your skill level.
3. A Piano Bench
As a beginner, you may overlook the importance of a quality piano bench. We suggest staying away from using a chair when you play as it can lead to improper posture. Instead, invest in a comfortable bench – preferably one you can adjust – and when playing the piano make sure that your feet are on the ground and your hand and elbow are parallel to each other.
While there are dozens of resources to improve playing the piano, these are three that we find extremely important to getting started. Best of luck and happy playing!
